Transnet has granted funding of R 750 000 to Batswana Commercial Secondary School. The mixed sex institution is situated in Mafikeng, in the North West province and home to more than 1300 learners. The donation which will be spread over three consecutive years at R 250 000 per annum, effective February 2014, will help alleviate severe classroom shortages being faced by the school.
For over a decade, Batswana Secondary has maintained its high esteem and is renowned for outstanding matric results. The school competes fairly well with private schools and currently offers boarding facilities to girls only. Batswana’s high standards have seen an immense influx of learners resulting in an acute shortage of classroom space and proper classroom structures.
The funding by Transnet will therefore improve the learning environment of learners and indirectly improve learner achievement. An integrated curriculum encompassing both commerce and science discipline subjects is offered by the school.
